Dr. Danielle Beatty MoodyLab DirectorDr. Beatty Moody is an Associate Professor with the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is the Director of The Social Determinants of Health Inequities Lab (abbreviated SoDHI). The SoDHI Lab seeks to identify and ameliorate pathophysiological linkages of psychosocial and environmental factors to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular endpoints across the life course, particularly in racial/ethnic minorities for which health disparities are disproportionately observed. I am an undergraduate student at UMBC, following a pre-medical track, aspiring to pursue a career as a primary care physician who works to combat inequities in healthcare. Under the proficiency of the SODHI lab, I will further my understanding of SES, social disadvantage, and discrimination and how such factors correlate to health disparities. My areas of interest include identifying psychosocial factors that contribute to ontogenetic development and evaluating the disproportionate representation of racial/ethnic minorities in healthcare. |

I plan on pursuing a career in medicine, where I would like to work with underserved communities, specifically with the immigrant population. Maryamah NdaoResearch Assistant Psychology Major + Africana Studies Minor
I am currently a third-year undergraduate student at UMBC pursuing my B.S. in Psychology and minoring in Africana Studies. My main professional goal is to become a clinical psychologist and serve marginalized communities, particularly Black and Brown people in the LGBTQIA+ community. My current research interests include the impact of discrimination on the body and mind, as well as how inherent biases against minorities impact healthcare. With my experience in the SoDHI lab, I am hoping to deepen my understanding of how one's environmental experiences impact their health in order to raise awareness and work to diminish the disparities in the healthcare systems to provide healthier lives for those most at risk. |

I am currently a senior working towards my B.S in psychology. I am pursuing a career at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and plan to continue studying behavioral sciences post-graduation. I plan to continue contributing to pediatric healthcare and work to create an environment where children have all their educational and social needs provided for. At the SoDHI Lab, I plan to investigate how limited healthcare impacts communities, families, and individuals, and what can be done to address it. |

I am a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School. My long-term professional goals include attending medical school to become a cardiologist. My areas of interest in research include which demographics face the most discrimination regarding cardiovascular health and how the general public can remain more informed about this issue. During my time at SoDHI Lab, I hope to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the various health inequities and social determinants that exist in relation to cardiovascular disease. I hope to apply the knowledge I gain from the lab as I continue my undergraduate studies next fall. |
